The Library is a small, lovely bedroom with a fantastic McRoskey bed in a beautiful 3-bdrm, 2-ba home in a wonderful neighborhood in the Berkeley hills. Guests share the hall bath with the host or Treehouse guest(s) and are welcome to use the shared kitchen and the public areas of the house and garden.
Many people from all over the world have enjoyed staying at the North Berkeley Hills Homestay while visiting UC Berkeley (just 2 miles away), connecting with friends or family, looking for a place to live, taking classes, or seeking respite from chemically toxic environments. Many guests with multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) and environmental illness (EI) find a safe and healthy refuge here. We use only unscented products and provide fragrance-free soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, shaving cream, and after-shave for guests without their own.
There is free WiFi available throughout the house and guests are welcome to use the well-equipped kitchen for their light meal preparation.
The Library is a lovely small room filled with travel books and fun art from around the world. Guests sleep on a wonderful and supportive queen bed from the renowned McRoskey Mattress Co, which has been handcrafting beds in San Francisco since 1899.
Though the neighborhood feels surprisingly peaceful in the lively Bay Area -- deer are frequently seen "pruning" local gardens! -- we're just a short walk from two AC Transit bus lines (#7 and #67, which offer a 10-min ride to UC, downtown Berkeley, and BART) and charming Kensington Village, where you'll find an old-fashioned drug store, post office, wine shop, restaurant, grocery store, ATM machine, and café.
Guests are also welcome to enjoy our back deck and yard. If you're lucky enough to be here when we're harvesting our organic garden, you can share in the bounty!
We've been hosting guests at this location since 2002, and look forward to helping you feel at home while you're in the Bay Area.
In addition to the room(s) they've rented, guests have access to a gorgeous eat-in kitchen, lovely living room/dining room, back deck, and garden.
Общение с гостями
We'll communicate before arrival and I'm usually here personally to welcome guests at check-in. I'm happy to answer any questions that arise during your stay -- as long as I'm in cell range -- though pretty much everything is covered in the guest book you'll find in your room! I do my best to honor guests' preferences for interaction, which range from minimal to lively engagement.

Laundry charge is $10 per load of wash, 7th Generation Free & Clear or other provided detergent, and dryer.
The North Berkeley Hills Homestay is a peaceful refuge from the intensity of the outside world. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am. Shoes come off at the door; you may bring your own slippers or borrow a pair we provide.
Your room and bathroom are stocked with 100% cotton towels and sheets, a small hairdryer, and very high-quality, fragrance-free hand, body soap, shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, and after-shave. As some of our guests cannot tolerate scented personal care products (even organic ones with essential oils), please leave yours at home. If this isn't possible, we'll be happy to store them off-premises for you while you're here. We respectfully ask guests arriving with scents on to shower on arrival. Though you may not be able to smell these products, they make our sensitive guests sick and will linger in the pillows, beds, shades, furniture, and carpets long after you leave. Thank you so much for your consideration.
Though we love cats, dogs, ferrets, rabbits, and other pets, we cannot accommodate yours.
We do not host smokers, anyone using illegal drugs, or those drinking alcohol beyond moderation.
Если вы отменяете бронирование за 7 дней до поездки или раньше, то мы вернем 50% суммы бронирования. Если вы отменяете бронирование меньше чем за 7 дней до поездки, то деньги не возращаются.

I'm a strategist, organizational designer, and leadership mentor working in the health, global health, and social entrepreneurship sectors. I started the North Berkeley Hills Homestay in 2002 and have since enjoyed hosting guests from all over the world, including many with chemical sensitivities. I love meditation, swimming, hiking, singing, theater, organic gardening, cooking, and helping people make a difference that matters!
