The loft is quite small and very warm. There's an old electric fan next to one of the beds that you can turn on, but it's a solid 10-15 degrees warmer than the rest of the home which is pretty hot to start with. Matilda and her friend were very kind (Bobby was out of town), but I only ended up staying one night despite booking four nights. It was just too warm, too uncomfortable. I bruised my calves and knees on the awkward vertical ladder that leads to the loft so badly that it looks like someone was punching my legs. Not the best experience. It is a private space because you have a door and a curtain to block off the window but it's so small and hot up there that you won't spend much time in it. You're going to want to be in the common area or literally anywhere else. There are some cockroaches that scurry around when you turn on the bathroom light at night - which is normal for Hawaii, I get it - but it's not ideal. The bathroom needs to be thoroughly cleaned with bleach, especially the shower.
The view is amazing to wake up to, and again Matilda and her friend were super welcoming but the positives end there. I think all of this is bearable if you have a lower price point - the loft should not be more than $30 a night. I feel that I overpaid a great deal, especially since I couldn't stand staying there more than one evening.
