Чем вы займетесь

We will meet outside Anguk Station, exit 2, in front of the Dunkin Donuts. From there, we will explore the site of a massacre so deadly that they couldn't count all the bodies. We'll then visit the site of Korea's first modern hospital, where the staff had to scrub out all the blood and gore from the remains of the previous owners. From there, we venture to Unhyeongung, a minor palace that housed one of the harshest rulers of the late Joseon Dynasty. Then we're off to the Nagwon-dong and Jongno 3-ga neighborhoods, which hide the remnants of a grisly sex industry. We pass by Tapgol Park, which also has a dark past, and then explore the spooky alleys of Pimatgol. All the while we'll point out interesting landmarks with surprising stories. There is also one famous landmark in the middle of Seoul that most Seoulites are totally unaware of. We'll finish the tour by meandering down the Cheonggyecheon Stream, regaling tales of ghosts and murders along Korea's rivers. We'll finish under a bridge that is the dismantled tomb of a former queen.

My studies in Korean history led me to moving here. I work with other Korean historians and folklorists in creating this experience. I regularly give lectures about the dark side of Korean history to organizations. My team is publishing a comic book about Korea's dark history and folklore.

Где вы побываете

The Alley of Ashes is called that because it was burned to the ground to get rid of the stench from putrefying corpses after a massacre in the 1500s. Unhyeongung housed a ruler who murdered over 3,000 Christians. Pimatgol Alley played a crucial role in South Korea's democracy movement. The Cheonggyecheon Stream carries a dark past that the tourism organization would rather you not know. Plus more interesting landmarks and surprises.
