Just booked in Poughkeepsie

Just booked in Poughkeepsie
Sleep staring at stars in wine country! Featured in The New York Times & The Today Show, the Glass House is a magical getaway. Just 90 mins from NYC, but a world away. 30 acres of rolling hills give total privacy & isolation as glass walls open up onto endless views of vineyards, orchards, & wildlife. Modern comforts (WiFi, A/C, loaded kitchen) mean you don't have to give anything up. (Please click the button below to expand & read full listing BEFORE booking! You'll see why I ask at end!)
Hi! If you're thinking of booking, please message me first to confirm, and also please read the entire listing to the end as it likely answers any questions you may have... Welcome to The Glass House. Come see why Forbes called it "The World's Most Beautiful Tiny House" and called an "off-grid oasis" on The Today Show. Sleep staring at the stars and feel the stress melt away in this glass-enclosed tiny house (just 180 square feet!) retreat, just 90 minutes from NYC, but a world's away. This is a truly special place, and most people find it surprising that it can exist so close to New York. With all sorts of wildlife coming within inches of the house (don't be surprised if you see coyotes, families of deer, and every type of bird you could imagine--not to mention more butterflies than you've ever seen, depending on the season), this is a truly immersive experience into nature. But despite its small size and isolated location, it is surprisingly luxurious on the inside. The listing includes: -A 180 square-foot glass-enclosed tiny house, offering spectacular 360-degree views of the Hudson Valley and surrounding vineyards and apple orchards -Lots of privacy on a 30-acre farm. -Outdoor dining and lounging furniture, along with access to a fire pit that you can definitely grill on. -A plush queen-sized bed with a super-comfy memory foam mattress and insanely comfortable pillows -A dining table with two chairs for sitting and eating. -A modern stainless-steel kitchen with a mini-fridge, induction cooktop for cooking, microwave, and electric kettle. Despite the small size, it has just about everything but a range oven. -Wi-Fi for keeping in touch with the real world and streaming shows on your personal devices. Also note that while the house is tiny and has a maximum occupancy of two people, I am sometimes able to accommodate larger parties for those bringing tents and willing to camp outside. Please inquire about pricing for such scenarios. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: Can I get to the house without a car? A: The house is about 25-minutes driving from the Beacon Metro-North train station (about 90-minutes from Grand Central). If you choose not to drive the whole way there are Zipcar pickups at the train station (reserve in advance!) and Uber JUST launched in the area ($20-$30 for the ride from the train). A car is highly recommended (especially if you want to explore the area), but this definitely makes things possible for the car-free—just be sure to show up with everything you need for the stay as the farm is in a rural area that is not particularly walkable. Q: Do I need to bring towels or linens? What about a hairdryer? A: Nope! I provide all these things. Same with basic toiletries (unless I happen to be out, which is very rare). Q: Is this house really off the grid? A: Yep! It features solar panels for power, a propane HVAC system for heating and air-conditioning, and a unique dry-flush toilet (more on that in the "Other Things To Note" section below). One exception: You absolutely have working Wi-Fi. Q: How will I receive the key? A: The house features a keyless entry system with a code that lasts as long as your stay. This allows for effortless check-in and entry. Q: Is the place professionally cleaned between guests? A: Yes, and I take pride in providing a clean home for guests. Take a look at my reviews—I think you'll find my guests agree! Q: What's up with the cleaning fee? A: I get a lot of questions about this, so I'll just break it down so you understand why it is what it is: All but $10 of that goes directly to my cleaner. She is a professional who does a great job and who I insist on compensating fairly for her work. The dry-flush toilet cartridges cost me about $20 apiece, so the remaining $10 lets me split that cost with guests. (Of course, if you happen to use more than one cartridge, I cover that cost alone). Q: What's my total booking price? A: I honestly have no idea. With fees included, Airbnb only shows the guest, and not the host, the total cost. This figure should be present after you enter your dates. Note that, pricing varies on a daily basis, and Airbnb actually uses some crazy algorithm to adjust it automatically, so I don't actually control this. Q: I am looking for a last-minute stay. Can I make a same-day booking? A: If you're looking for a same-day booking and the place is free, please inquire and I'll try! It depends on whether my cleaning crew can spring into action at the last-minute, which isn't a sure thing. Check-in may also have to be later than the listed time in order to make sure the place is ready. Still, can't hurt to ask. Q: I know it says "No Animals". Can I bring my small/well-behaved dog? A: I love dogs, but there is a farm dog who gets very nervous when other dogs are around, and so we can not allow animals. This is also for your dog's safety, as there are coyotes in the area. Basically: Please don't try to sneak one in--this really doesn't end well. Q: I'm a blogger/YouTuber/influencer. Can I stay for free? A: No. NEW: There's now a second tiny house at the farm. If you have a larger group and are looking to rent both (the new one can hold three people), definitely inquire. Or check it out for yourself here: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/29535692 One last thing: I really, really appreciate that you followed directions and read the whole thing. Please put the phrase "Don't throw rocks at glass houses!!" at the top of your message so I know you did so as such bookings tend to go so much smoother! And thanks for hanging in there!
The Glass House is situated on a 30-acre farm in the rolling hills of the Hudson Valley. Guests have total privacy, but are joined on the farm by the main farm house, a smaller residence with live-in caretakers that can help out in case of an emergency, and one other tiny house. Around the farm are views of rolling vineyards and apple orchards—many of which are absolutely worth a visit. Downtown Marlboro is minutes away and has a few nightlife and dining options, and the hopping town of Beacon (home of the Dia; Beacon) is about 25 minutes away. Storm King Art Center (a must) is also about 30 minutes away. Also near: New Paltz, Cold Spring Poughkeepsie, and countless other Hudson Valley gems.
  • We've had a great stay at Seth's tiny house in the beacon area! The location is beautiful. On our first night, just after checking in we saw a coyote and a group of deer. They came up close to cabin, pretty amazing. From the house we visited DIA Beacon and did the Breakneck Ridge Hike. Aside from that we just relaxed near the house, read books and had some really good nights sleep in the super comfortable bed. Seth has been a great host, responding to out questions fast and giving some great tips for our stay. Highly recommended. Thanks Seth!

  • The Glass House is a really cute, cozy, and picturesque stay for any duo looking to escape the city. I was most impressed by Seth’s thorough instructions and quick responses. We had a little issue with Carpenter ants coming into the house but Seth was fast with responding and offering solutions. The stay is definitely more on the “glamping” side with access to the elements but still within a safe and warm structure. The bed was probably the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. The views were spectacular. It was a little rough walking up the rocky path to the house (wear good shoes!) but manageable. All in all, it was a peaceful, quiet, and beautiful stay! Thank you, Seth!

  • Beautiful home that definitely lived up to the expectations set by the other 5 star reviews on this site. Seth was very communicative as well. The house is beautiful and equipped with everything you would need, you can see all the stars at night and the views in the morning are beautiful as well. Will definitely come again!

    Maria2018-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Seth's tiny house was so great! It would be a perfect place for couples and friends to relax. The house is special and equipped with almost everything. Highly recommend.

  • The Tiny House is wonderful. You have a great view of the woods, complete with family of woodchucks. The kitchen is well- stocked with pots and pans and the house is about a 10-min drive to a grocery store and even closer to a Saturday farmers market with local produce. There are a ton of apple orchards around as well for those inclined to pick their own. The toilet takes some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, there's no problem. I'd highly recommend to anyone looking to get away from the city for a weekend.

We are conveniently located within a 10 minute WALK from the Poughkeepsie Train Station and the historic Walkway over the Hudson! Our three family home is nestled in the Little Italy district of the City of Poughkeepsie - Appropriately there is no shortage of Italian bakeries or Italian restaurants in our neighborhood! Four restaurants (Amici's, Milanese, Cosimo's and Emiliano's) and two bakeries (La Deliziosa and Cafe Aurora) to be exact, all within WALKING distance! Good food is definitely not hard to come by in our neck of the woods. WALK on down to the Poughkeepsie waterfront... Dine inside or al fresco overlooking the beautiful Hudson River at the River Station Restaurant. Make sure you try one of the five delicious soups, homemade daily or pop into the historic Ice House on the Hudson for some of their yummy eats! Maybe you're just in the mood to cozy up next to a fire and enjoy a delicious glass of wine? Well then WALK down the street and around the corner to the Nic'L Inn. The ambience and artfully crafted menu never disappoints but be careful because their complimentary fried spaghetti can be addictive. Obviously we enjoy introducing people to our favorite neighborhood spots but lets not take away the fact that your journey to Poughkeepsie is just the gateway to the Hudson Valley. Located within 20 +/- minutes to the Village of New Paltz, Rhinebeck, Beacon, Breakneck Ridge (Hiking), Millbrook and multiple Breweries, Wineries, Distilleries, Orchards and attractions in Historic Hyde Park. • A fantastic place to stay in Poughkeepsie. Everything is spotless / new and beautifully furnished and decorated - much nicer than our home!! Robert & Regina have really gone the extra mile to make their place inviting for guests. Location is great - just a short walk from the train station, and close to shops and restaurants. A great launching pad to see the beautiful Hudson Valley!

  • Convenient location , quiet, and very clean. Rob was cordial and communicated well. Apartment is tastefully furnished and has a complete kitchen , if you want to cook. Much more room than a hotel at much less the cost. Lots of nice amenities...toiletries,books, kitchen cutlery and dishes, and much more.

  • This place was great!! Exactly as described and everything was super smooth. I would highly recommend a stay at the Tavern if you'll be staying in Poughkeepsie.

    Jose2018-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Rob and Regina's place was very nice in a quiet neighborhood. It was near a few restaurants and bars and many more with a Lyft. We have no issues checking in and this place also included an off street parking spot, which is very important as we problems at other places. Really good WIFI and FIOS TV.

    Dawn2018-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is exactly as it is in the picture. It's a short walk away from some great eats, and Robert and Regina have some great recommendations too. The apartment itself was very modern and fully stocked, and ready to go for even the least prepared traveler! Easy to travel to and from, and close to the hudson river walkway, this apartment was a joy to stay in!

    Michael2016-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • This place was adorable, so comfortable and well located for the wedding we attended at Locust Grove. We actually recommended this place to my brother to bring his gf up sometime in the future, and we'd love to plan a trip back sometime!

    Hristos2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • Robert and Regina's home is warm and welcoming, exactly as it shows in the photos and distribution. Check in process was super easy, they respond quickly to our messages and it was truly a pleasure staying in their home. Great service.

  • Wonderful place. Private. Elisa explains all areas of interest locally. She is a great artist. Make sure you find the turn-in to the house. Look for mailbox with 257. Great hospitality!

    Steven2018-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable and clean room in a unique building. The location is great - easy access to both New Paltz and Poughkeepsie - and Elisa was very welcoming, with good suggestions about things to see and places to eat.

    Jennifer2017-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Rob and Elisa are super kind and hospitable with great local knowledge. Wonderful stay hope to come back again.

    Jesse2018-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • What a find! Very unique, peaceful, clean and close to everything great in Hudson Valley. Elisa is a great host - it almost feels like a entire home as the space is very private.

    Jane2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • The room is very private, you essentially have your own loft with a bathroom and a great view of the pond out back! The room is very nice and has a nice dining area and a keurig, which we found to be big pluses during our stay! Rob and Elisa are wonderful hosts and while their home is not directly in a larger city, the towns of New Paltz and Poughkeepsie are both just a short cab ride away and either town is a fine place to spend a day! All in all I would say that Casa Del Arte is an incredible find and I couldn't be happier with the weekend I spent there.

    Bryce2017-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Elisa met my daughter and I when we came in. She explained the area, was very informative and accomodating. She also spent time with me explaining her art and it was a wonderful experience for me to learn about the early tribes from Patagonia. The area is close to two rail trails which my daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed along with some local eateries!

    Joan2018-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • The house is so unique, and Elisa was a wonderful host. Definitely will stay here again.

    Jonathan2017-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was great. Elisa was very welcoming and even set up the futon last minuet at our request. The room was exactly as it appears in the pictures and very spacious - with a gorgeous view over the pond. Eliza's gallery is a must see. Would definitely stay here again.

  • I really wish I could keep Troy's Scandinavian house my own little secret and not tell anyone about it (wanted to go back the first week of October but he is already fully booked :( ) but ok, can't be selfish so will share...we (me and my husband) flew in from South Florida to bring our freshman daughter to Marist college, this was our very first Airbnb experience. It will be very difficult to find another one in the future that compares, we got totally spoiled the first time! Troy truly hosts guests from his heart, he genuinely loves meeting people, entertaining and sharing his knowledge about the area. He is a volunteer member of several historical preservation committees in the area and on our first day gave us an expert tour of Vanderbilt Gardens and the Roosevelt Estate. He is a great Chef and an avid gardener (while we were there he won a dozen 1st and 2nd prizes at Duchess County Fair with his vegetables, flowers and antiques). He welcomed us in to his wonderful, inviting home as one would a dear friend, introduced us to his friends and made us feel at home immediately. I will not tell you about his magnificent breakfasts, just to not spoil the surprise but what I can say is that you will not need lunch! This was one of those rare truly unforgettable experiences we will savor for a very long time - Thank You Troy!!

    Kristiina2015-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We felt welcome before we even arrived. Troy texted us on the morning of our arrival day to let us know he was cooking dinner if we wanted to join him. We weren't able to make it to dinner (which we heard from other guests was phenomenal), but we thoroughly enjoyed the three-course Norwegian breakfast the next day. Thank you, Troy. You're an amazing host!

    Willis2015-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I wanted to book a last minute weekend away from NYC to decompress and disconnect. We were immediately drawn to Troy's home - it had everything we could ever want - comfy bed, delicious new foods, convenient location and superb host and host dogs! Troy was extremely quick to respond and extremely accommodating. He had amazing tips for things to do and places to eat in the area (we went to Rhinebeck to Le Petit Bistro) and made a mean breakfast (favorite was the shrimp salad). We really enjoyed the downstairs area of Troy's home because we were super tired from a rough couple of months at work. Next time, we would like to spend more time upstairs in the amazingly decorated living room and outside!

    Jessica2018-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Troy's house was great! We stayed in the lower room, which gave privacy and a separate bathroom. The bedding was comfortable and temperature perfect while it was sweltering outside. Troy is so hospitable, with helpful advice on where to go and what to see - and got us in to see the Vanderbilt mansion and gardens just down the street. The highlight of course is the delicious Scandinavian breakfast each morning! Troy was a fantastic host and we'd gladly stay again.

    Amy2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful nights sleep in the very clean and cozy Duchess room. Troy's gourmet breakfast wasn't just yummy but an education experience!

    Jenny2016-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a special and relaxing trip staying with Troy. He was quick with communication, offered great recommendations, and took time to cook and enjoy a (unique and delicious) Norwegian breakfast with us. The home and room was comfortable and inviting. Fantastic location too- we were able to walk around the Vanderbilt grounds from his house!

    Amy2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is not just an AirBnb, it’s an entire experience. The home is beautiful and calming, and Troy is simply fantastic. Everything was perfection for our stay and the breakfast was delicious. We also met other great people and Troy’s two adorable dogs while we stayed. I wish we could have been there longer. I highly recommend this experience!

    Jenna2018-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • This was our fourth stay with our dear friend Troy. The hundreds of rave reviews below me speak for themselves! We couldn’t love Troy, his two girls (dogs) or his fabulous, relaxing and meticulous Hudson Valley haven more. Extraordinary hospitality and delicious food aside, Troy is just a wonderful person/friend. Don’t miss out on this experience! Stay with Troy!!! Love you and thanks again for a wonderful city escape ❤️!

  • Robert and Regina were fantastic to work with! I needed the space for a photography shoot, and they were so willing to make it everything we needed and worked with me so well. The place was beautiful and very spacious. I would definitely recommend them to anyone staying in the Poughkeepsie area!

  • We had a nice stay. The apartment was clean and had all the basic amenities. They were very communicative. The apartment is close to downtown Poughkeepsie and Hudson Valley attractions and overall was a good value. Thanks!

  • My wife and I came up to visit her brother, who's a student at the CIA in Hyde Park. While in the area, we also visited the Vanderbilt Mansion, FDR's home and library, and Eleanor Roosevelt's home. Robert and Regina's place was super convenient, since their place and all the places we visited were on or near Route 9. Also, their place was a short walk to the Walkway Over the Hudson.

    Hahn2017-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • The location was very convenient to getting around the Hudson Valley and the city of Poughkeepsie if you have a car. The place was very comfortable and nice. The apartment was clean and well decorated. The only item I can think to be aware of is that the only window air conditioner is located in the bathroom. In the summer months, it cooled the bathroom and bedroom just fine but depending on how cool you prefer, it may be a little warm in the living area. In general, I would happily stay here again and recommend it as a wonderful place to stay!

    Soo2017-07-08T00:00:00Z

Large one bedroom apartment, walking distance from Vassar College. Only a few miles away from The Walkway Over the Hudson. We have onsite laundry, off street parking, free wifi which includes Amazon Prime Video and Hulu. There is a full kitchen in the apartment as well and a private entrance.
Full kitchen, fridge and stove, Bathroom with shower, two closets with hangers, bedroom has a queen size bed. Can accommodate more people in the living room with a full size mattress (set up is free with bookings of four or more) and the couch is very comfy. The space includes television with Amazon Prime and Hulu.
Very safe and welcoming neighborhood on the South side of town. Quiet at night and we’ve never had an issue with any of our great neighbors.
  • Perfect for a weekend close by Hudson River. we really enjoyed the coffee machine, the recommendations from our hosts and the very very comfy couch! also a great selection of movies thanks to Netflix, Amazon prime etc. Would stay there again!

  • We had a wonderful stay in Adam's Airbnb! The Airbnb is an entire basement apartment, an incredible value for the price! Great wifi and TV with netflix, and a proper kitchen, too! We have been road-tripping as a group of four and it was wonderful to get a proper rest in a real house and make ourselves tea in the morning. It seems like Adam thinks of everything--a basket of toiletries for the forgetful, a set of boardgames for bonding with your traveling companions. Very fast walking distance to Vassar and very convenient parking. We had a lovely time. Thanks Adam!

    Melanie2018-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • Adam's place was exactly what we were looking for! It was very clean and spacious with many amenities, including a kitchen with a coffee maker which we greatly appreciated! There was a list of the locals' favorite places if you wanted to go out and explore, or else there was a cozy couch with a TV if you wanted to stay in. We were able to check in later using the lockbox which was super convenient. We will definitely stay there again in the future! Thank you again!

POUGHKEEPSIE: Home to 4 colleges (Vassar, Marist, Dutchess Community & The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park), Poughkeepsie is both a college town and a city in transition with a diverse blue collar urban community. With close proximity to restaurants and cultural destinations, Poughkeepsie allows you to experience the conveniences of “small city” life while only being a 10 minute drive from the country. A historic industrial port city, Poughkeepsie is currently going through an exciting resurgence, characterized by a grassroots local food movement, farm-to-table restaurants, and a number of revitalization projects, including the renowned Walkway Over the Hudson, the world’s longest pedestrian bridge spanning the width of Hudson River. The Walkway connects the Dutchess County and Ulster County rail trails, making Poughkeepsie a destination for bike enthusiasts. Vassar College and the city’s south side also make for wonderful bike routes with cute residential streets, historic homes, and lots of trees. We love Poughkeepsie for its diversity – its people, its culture – and the way it encompasses the full socio-economic spectrum, from its pristine college campuses to the developing commercial zone and restaurant scene in the historic main street corridor. Poughkeepsie is an exciting place with a unique energy, and an ideal home base for experiencing the rest of the Historic Hudson Valley. THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Gray Street, where the guest house is located, is a residential, tree-lined street in a transitioning neighborhood 5 minutes from Vassar College. The neighborhood is a blend of everything from young entrepreneurs, academics, government workers, tradespeople and low income families. The guest house sits across from Forbus Butternut Park, a 1-acre greenspace overseen by a local non-profit. There is a church on the other side of the park, and the Poughkeepsie High School and football field is about 2 blocks away. During the day, kids sometimes play in the street, but for the most part it's very quiet since Gray Street isn’t a major thoroughfare. AROUND THE REGION: Because Poughkeepsie is centrally located, it makes for a great jumping off point to explore the rest of the Hudson Valley region. Towns like Beacon, New Paltz, Rosendale, Millbrook, Hyde Park and Rhinebeck are all within an easy drive with lots of things to see along the way. Hudson, The Catskills, Cold Spring, Phoenicia and the Berkshires all make for wonderful day trips – full of meandering country drives, antiquing, hiking, fishing, wine-tasting, museum-hopping, or cooling off in a swimming hole. I run a blog that’s dedicated to travel, food and culture in the region called An Upstate of Mind, and I’m happy to send along recommendations for our favorite spots tailored around whatever you like to do. The surrounding Upstate NY towns are lovely, but to make for a full day, it’s sometimes good to combine a few destinations into a “mini road trip” that lets you soak in the local flavor and experience the sprawling natural settings the Hudson Valley is known for.
  • The apartment was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a lot of charm. The stay was seamless and Seth was very helpful. We had a great time. Thank you!

  • Very good communication giving all the details needed. Apartment in perfect condition. Spacious and clean. Thank you Seth

  • Though we never saw Seth he was a great host and provided all kinds of information for us about the surrounding area. The house would be more welcoming if the windows opened to let fresh air in. It is an older place in an area that is gentrifying. It was OK for our purpose of visiting our granddaughter in Poughkeepsie.

    William2017-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Seth is a great host. The house is exactly as described, clean, and comfortable. Seth provides thorough instructions and a great list of recommendations for the surrounding area.

    Maribeth2018-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I had a great stay here. Seth was an amazing host - very responsive and gave tons of recommendations for things to do, places to eat in the area. The guest house was clean, bright, tidy, and exactly as pictured. The tasteful decor was unique and made it a special experience to stay here. The art work was a bonus! The location is perfect for exploring the Hudson Valley. We drove up to the Catskills and also checked out nearby towns such as New Paltz and Beacon.

    Stephanie2014-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place to stay! The apartment was clean and comfortable. I loved the pictures throughout the house. I wish I was able to get the story behind them all. Alex's for breakfast was a great tip! Thanks, Seth!

    Christine2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Seth's artistic guests house is an inspiring place to stay when you need to escape the city. The juxtapose of modern and antique decor is a designers dream. Seth was beyond helpful as we planned our trip and we were pleased with all of his recommendations.

    Megan2014-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Seth's apartment was perfect. It was close to all kinds of activities that we planned to do--an easy drive to the FDR National Historic Park and Val-Kill as well as biking and hiking. The apartment was clean and the kitchen just right for making a meal in one night. Seth was easy to communicate with and very responsive. We highly recommend The Artist Guest House!

Comfortable room with lots of natural light. Located on the first floor of a 3 bedroom apartment in a private home. The quiet neighborhood is ideal for a peaceful get away, or if you are passing through to see the beautiful Hudson Valley.
The room has a full size bed, flat screen 19inch tv, basic cable, wifi, and complimentary snacks and wine. The home is located centrally to fine dining, shopping plazas, the galleria mall, Marist college, Vassar college, walkway over the Hudson, and many walking and riding trails. Vassar hospital is right up the street (5 minute walk)
The neighborhood is quiet and very clean. The area is perfect for family, dining, entertainment, or just relaxation.
  • Van was extremely responsive and made check-in very easy. The place was immaculate and quiet, and everything was as pictured. There were other guests, but we never crossed paths. All in all it was a very comfortable stay!

    Helen2016-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great price safe neighborhood safe parking we would stay there again

    Mike2017-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • The listing was accurate and the room is very clean, but the area where the Airbnb is located was not what I expected. The downtown area of Poughkeepsie is pretty empty with not much going on. The Airbnb was close to the train station, but not much else. Otherwise the room was very clean and Van was a great host!

    Allie2016-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • This room is comfortable and reasonably sized, in a three-bed apartment which is well-equipped with everything from a full kitchen, to wifi, televisions, hairdryer and complimentary supplies. Best of all, the complimentary bottle of wine, and a fridge to keep it cool! Out of all of Van's rooms, the bed in this room is the most comfortable. The place in general is a little bit shabby and worn-out, but this is made up for in little touches, easy check-in and warmth from Van and his wife. It is nothing fancy but matches the price per night. I stayed in each of Van's rooms for a week at a time, and saw a stream of guests, some solo travellers, other couples out exploring the Hudson Valley. It is an easy, no-fuss place to stay for a night or two. Air conditioning is a wonderful feature of every room if you're visiting in the summer. It is in easy walking distance from the station, but Poughkeepsie itself has seen better days and isn't very tourist-friendly (or particularly safe in my opinion).

    Clemency2018-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Although I never met Van he communicated everything to ensure we had a smooth and easy trip. His house is very clean and well kept, and the little care package of wine and shower products was much appreciated after a long day of travelling!

    Louise2016-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first Airbnb experience and after reading all the reviews on Van's place I went for it. Van's home was very neat, clean, and comfortable. The home was within walking distance to local bars, restaurants, and the waterfront. Van was always quick to reply to all my messages and was kind enough to give us suggestions on where to eat and hike. I definitely recommend this place for you stay in Poughkeepsie.

  • Van, has a great place with many rooms everything was okay.. WIFI did go out for a day so I'm glad it came back.. had taxi issues.. but it worked out.. I got food and enjoyed my time there.. thanks VAN again.. :)

  • I had a lovely stay at Neelam’s place. The specified amenities are great. The house is attractive, and my room was warm and comfortable. There is ample parking and the Internet connection is strong. The place is affordable and Neelam and Rakesh were helpful and friendly. I am glad that the place was available when I needed it. I will stay here again when I am in the area.

  • This is a beautiful home and very close to the train station. They are both such nice people and even went out of their way to offer me juice and cookies upon my arrival and breakfast before I left. Comfy bed too. Highly recommended!

Built over 100 years ago as a chicken hatchery, this gorgeous little gem has been fully restored as a two-story guest cottage. Located in New Paltz just minutes off Exit 18 on I-87 in a very private, quiet, country setting. Only ten minutes from New Paltz Village & SUNY New Paltz and set back on a lightly traveled road for those long summer strolls. You don't even need a car to get here! It's just 12 minutes by taxi from the New Paltz Bus Station or bring your bike up and cycle everywhere!
The Little Yellow Cottage displays much of it's original construction including post and beam, stained glass in the cupola (even an original stained glass portrait of Abraham Lincoln!) and a screened in porch for breakfast with a view or just hanging out. Inside you’ll find a spiral staircase and all the 21st century amenities you’d expect, including radiant in-floor heat, AC, TV, wi-fi and laundry in the full kitchen. One queen bed sleeps two on the ground level and one Murphy bed sleeps a single on the lower level. Private picnic table right outside. And the postal code may say Highland, but the Little Yellow Cottage is really in New Paltz!
Check out the funky art hub of New Paltz or SUNY New Paltz just 10 minutes away or climb the Shawanagunk Mountains 15 minutes away. You don’t even need a car! Bring your bike up on the bus or train and take a taxi ($12) to the Little Yellow Cottage. Cycle the 20 minutes into New Paltz or even spend a day on the Hudson Valley Rail Trail also just 20 minutes away. Talk a long walk on a quiet country road and snap a selfie at the tranquil Black Creek just a minute away.
  • Absolutely adorable and immaculate. Justin is a wonderful host. Answered my questions immediately and was extremely generous and helpful. It's definitely a great place for a getaway in the warmer months. In the winter, if you're planning to spend much time indoors — I found it too cold to enjoy the lovely little screened-in porch or the outside picnic table. And without those alternatives, the Little Yellow Cottage feels very Tiny. However, if you're looking for a very cute, very clean, quiet place to snuggle up at night and be able to fix yourself breakfast and snacks, so you can venture out during the day into the village or the countryside, it would be at great any time of the year.

  • Peaceful, pristine, perfect!

    Tennessee2018-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Justin's place was a real gem! This Little Yellow Cottage is neat, clean, and has a warm and welcoming décor. The bed is very comfortable, and you will find all the necessary amenities and then some! The porch is a bonus! It was so peaceful sitting out there both mornings with coffee and evenings with a glass of wine. You will not regret booking this lovely little place!

    Dianne2018-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • The little yellow cottage was even better than expected! Very clean and has everything you need. An incredible place to get away and be in nature and still so close to downtown New Paltz. An awesome and unique place that has it all!

  • What a find! The studio was exactly as pictured- spotless, stylish, cozy, and with the most incredible views of the river! You couldn't get closer to the water if you tried. Jim's place had everything we needed. We went expecting some potential noise from boats and the train (the studio is very close to the tracks), however, we had no problems at all with noise. The train noise lasted about 5 seconds when it went by, and we both slept right through it at night. The swiveling TV was a nice touch, as we could enjoy Hulu and Netflix from the living room area or the bedroom. Overall, we would highly recommend Jim's studio, and hope to stay again in the future.

    Leann2018-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Spectacular location with unmatched views, literally jutting our over the Hudson River. This immaculate, clean and gleaming new cottage offers a peaceful respite with everything you need. Our host Jim was friendly and available, although we didn’t require a thing. This is the best stay we have experienced with Airbnb and we will most definitely return.

    Marci2018-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • Jim is a great host - always answers questions really quickly. The small house is great with wonderful views of the Hudson. Just as pictured. This is really a nice spot!

    Tom2018-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in November at Jim's place was great. The place was exactly as described and the view could not have been more amazing! Waking up with a view of the river and fall colored leaves was beautiful. The kitchen was well equipped including coffee, and the bathroom included shower amenities. My husband and I could not recommend Jim's place enough for a weekend getaway to the Hudson Valley!

    Rita2018-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first experience of Airbnb and we are now complete converts! We couldn’t have chosen a more amazing space. Jim really has thought of everything and has finished his property to a very high standard. He has made excellent use of the available space and with the added touches of the pull out TV and AC made our stay perfect. The view was spectacular, with a wall of windows facing the river, along with an amazing deck to sit and listen to the noise of riverlife and see boats, birds and fish jumping. We did not make use of the blinds as we preferred to let the view shine into the space day and night. The photos of the place are accurate but so much better in real life plus it was spotlessly clean. Thank you Jim for welcoming us, and we look forward to returning. Lesley and Dennis.

    Lesley2018-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Jim’s place has everything you would need for a relaxing getaway. The views are incredible, there is a gas grill, and the house is clean with everything you need.

    Bonnie2018-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • I went to SUNY New Paltz. So, I know the area but I have never seen a view like this before. The view and this place are magical. Although it’s not a big place it makes really good use of the space and it feels way bigger than it is. Every detail was very well thought of and we had everything we needed. We had a great time with my girlfriend and will definitely book this place again.

    Ilgaz2018-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying at Jims lake home! Our favorite part was sitting on the deck, relaxing, enjoying the peaceful quiet, beautiful view, and calm river water lapping at the shore. The deck was private from neighbors with trees on both sides of deck. Interior of house was clean and nice. We’d definitely stay again!

Relax in a tastefully-appointed early 1900s Craftsman home. Beautiful natural light with views overlooking College Hill Park. An easy drive to Beacon, Rhinebeck, Millbrook, New Paltz, Hudson and the Catskills. A short walk to The Walkway Over the Hudson & Dutchess County Rail Trail.
A welcoming turn of the century Craftsman home located at the end of a small private street overlooking Poughkeepsie's largest green space, College Hill Park (once the grounds of a women's college). Guest Rooms 1 & 2 on the second floor feature one queen-sized bed and one full-sized bed respectively. Included with your stay: - Bedding, towels and additional linens - Wireless high-speed internet - TV (Apple TV) - Dishwasher - Microwave - Gas stove & oven - Refrigerator & freezer - Outdoor gas grill - Cooking utensils, mixing bowls, pots & pans - Dishes, eating utensils, etc. - Coffee maker (drip) - Coffee, coffee filters & tea - Hairdryer - Air conditioning
POUGHKEEPSIE: What we love about Poughkeepsie is its diversity – its people, its culture – and the way it encompasses the full socio-economic spectrum – from the pristine campus at Vassar to the developing commercial zone and restaurant scene in the historic main street corridor. Home to 4 colleges (Vassar, Marist, Dutchess Community & The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park), Poughkeepsie is both a college town and a city in transition with a diverse blue collar urban community. With close proximity to restaurants and cultural destinations, Poughkeepsie allows you to experience the conveniences of “small city” life while only being a 10 minute drive from the country. THE NEIGHBORHOOD: The house is located on a quiet dead end street overlooking College Hill Park, Poughkeepsie’s largest greenspace. There are only 6 houses on the street and all the neighbors know each other. It’s a family-friendly, chill environment. We’re a block away from the Dutchess County Rail Trail, leading to the Walkway Over the Hudson (about a 10 minute walk). Reservoir Street is part of a blue collar and light commercial neighborhood. Because of its proximity to the park, the area around the house is quiet and even slightly secluded feeling since the rolling landscape blocks out the activity from the central part of the city.

  • We enjoyed the house a great deal - lovely and well appointed! We went to three of Seth's restaurant suggestions during our brief stay, and all were a hit! We appreciated Seth's thorough communication and quick responses. Thanks for making our visit to Poughkeepsie a great experience.

  • We really enjoyed our stay. The proximity to the Walkway over the Hudson and the Hudson Valley Rails to Trails was a favorite highlight. In our spare time, we biked all around and explored Poughkeepsie. What an interesting blend of urban and outdoors.

  • Seth's place was comfortable and well-appointed. The house has all you need and is furnished with interesting art and artifacts. We enjoyed our stay and used Seth's recommendations for local attractions and services. Easy access, good communication, smooth stay.

  • Beautiful house, fantastic host. A group of 5 of us spent our New Year's Eve/Day in Poughkeepsie just to escape the NYC madness. Seth called about a week prior to our stay confirm that we were all set and to answer any questions regarding Poughkeepsie and our stay. I have to say, the house is incredible. We spent our first hour there exploring, looking at paintings and examining antiques. Every time you walk through a room you discover something new and interesting. The kitchen was perfect for cooking, the bedrooms cozy and comfortable and the entire place was extremely clean. Our only disappointment was that we weren't able to have breakfast on the adorable front porch because it was 15 degrees out! :-) Seth's place is also just a short distance from the train station and the downtown area and other local attractions. High recommend a stay here!

  • This was the perfect spot for my friends and I (three couples, one baby) to be slightly removed from — but still able to participate in — the busy-ness of our 10-year reunion at Vassar. Plus the house is BEAUTIFUL and so lovely to spend time in. So well furnished, decorated, and supplied — everything we needed. And the location at the end of a quiet dead-end street right up against college hill park was ideal. There was a playground in the park that my son loved, and he enjoyed the Mid Hudson Children's Museum as well. I do wish we had been walking distance from the Vassar campus but you can't have it all!

  • Seth’s place is as described and exactly what we were looking for. It’s clean with great art and personal touches, making it feel like home.

  • This house is so tastefully decorated with a great mix of old and new - fun and interesting antiques, retro art, new art - all done with modern flair. Cool house, cool touches - it was a lovely home and I would stay here in a second if coming back to Poughkeepsie!

I live in a lovely gray raised ranch with a circular drive. Your room contains a comfortable queen sized bed, desk, large closet, and a nice view of the woods. Two cats live in the room across the hall as a warning to anyone who has cat allergies. I provide you with a listing of local restaurants serving breakfast to dinner and many local sites such as FDR home, Vanderbilt Mansion, CIA, etc. If you are a student using the FDR library let me know and we can discuss the price.
A private home in historic Hyde Park. Quiet bedroom with a view of the woods. Queen sized bed and a futon in the room for children or another guest.
  • Very comfortable bed, close to CIA. I had a lot of scheduling problems getting in, and Linda was very accommodating. Would definitely stay again!

    Bob2018-04-13T00:00:00Z
  • Linda was so nice! We set up a check-in time and she was kind and eager to help and answer questions. The room was adorable, calm, and peaceful, the bathroom was just across the hall. We had to leave early the next morning but we wish we could have stayed here for another night! Thanks for being a great host Linda!

  • If you want a comfortable, welcoming place to stay, this is it. Linda and Patrizia could not have been nicer. The neighborhood is quiet and tucked away but just a short drive or walk to town. I'd stay here again, but for longer.

  • Linda’s home is very cozy, especially the room that we stayed in. The bed is very comfortable and had an extra blanket, there was a small refrigerator and microwave in the room, there was a pitcher with water and cups, and a paper with recommendations for things to do and places to eat. Linda made us feel very welcome in her home.

    Sara2018-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • it's good to stay here, thanks Linda.

    Dang2017-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Linda's room was exactly what we needed. A comfortable bed and futon in a nice house in an excellent location, just a few minutes away from the FDR library. Linda was very nice and clearly wanted us to feel comfortable. A good basecamp for local activities.

    Johannah2015-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed for two months while completing an internship in Hyde Park and could not have been happier with my stay! Linda is helpful, kind, and thoughtful. Keep in mind that the bathroom is shared, but I very rarely ran into issues with that. I’d highly recommend here!

  • This stay was awesome. Easy to get to via gps, access was quick with lots of parking space and in a cute enclosed neighborhood. Everything looked just as pictured. Very clean, neat and convenient. I enjoyed that everything was right in our studio-like room so there was no need to travel throughout the house like some other air bnb places. Didn't speak much with Veronie, she gave us our space and was still accessible when we needed her. She also has a great book collection with my favorite author - Napoleon hill, which I enjoyed skimming through. The green tea was refreshing in the morning and the deck was open to us hanging out in. Even had wine glasses for use! Full channels of premium TV! Washer and dryer and comfy chairs. Great stay, will definitely use again! Thanks again, Veronie!

The furniture was comfy, the service was great. There's premium channels, showtime, HBO, etc on the tv--that was nice. In all, the stay was excellent and our host was the best.

This spacious suite is peaceful, & wooded with separate entrance, patio, wifi, full kitchen, bathroom (small shower), queen bed, sleeper sofia, TV (uses fire stick, wifi & blu-ray, no cable) Local (seasonal) sites to see: Walkway over the Hudson, FDR Home & Library (Hyde Park, 14 mi.away), Culinary Institute (11 Mi), Vassar College, Highland Landing Park, Old Kingston (original site of NYS Capital), SUNY New Paltz, Antique stores of NP, Huguenot Village, Minnewaska State Park, Mohonk Mtn House.
We're unique because we live in a rural setting, yet within a few miles of - Mohonk, apple orchards, vineyards, 5 colleges, The Walkway Over the Hudson, etc. We also are 10 minutes from the train to NYC. *If you come from NYC by train - we offer pickup roundtrip for $10 (please make sure you ask if you need this.)
We fondly call our neighborhood, "the Outback," because we're in the woods. 1. The biggest plus is the peacefulness and we are centrally located near SUNY New Paltz and Vassar Colleges. There are also 2 community colleges nearby as well. 2. We regularly have a family of wild turkeys, deer, and red tailed hawks coming through the yard. Of course the usual chipmunks, ground hogs and squirrels. We even had a huge, beautiful large Owl land right outside the Suite window this past spring.
  • Warmly welcome! Clean and cozy apartment, fully equipped what is located in a lovely environment and just a really best location to discover the Hudson Valley attractions. Great experience for an enjoyable weekend. We truly recommend! Thanks!

  • Kit has a spacious, homey, immaculate and comfortable space that is convenient for both sides of the Hudson River. Kit and Mark are gracious and accommodating to every need and I highly recommend their home. Directions are easy, the space was private and quiet. I was attending a family function and only needed a place to sleep. Kit was easily accessible, accommodating and proactive with my needs.

The upstairs room is private and off set. The room has a separate entrance with a 42 inch screen tv, DVD player, and sitting area. There is also a bottle of wine and snacks waiting for you.
Quiet private street close to metro north, walkway over the Hudson, serval colleges and Vassar hospital. Also close to all major shopping and sinking options in the area.
  • Van's place was great! It's a very easy 15 minute walk from the Poughkeepsie train station, making it ideal for folks seeking a quiet weekend getaway. Everything matched the description, and check in and check out were both very easy processes.

    Rachel2017-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, convenient, and affordable, with only one minor inconvenience. I must qualify by stating that I actually spent very little time at Van's place because I was in town for a conference. I got in late and left early in the AM, so really was only there to sleep. The space and linens were very clean and the room had a very pleasant scent. The street was quiet and within easy walking distance to Downtown Poughkeepsie where I spent most of my time while in town. There was a small inconvenience at the time of check-in where I did not have the proper directions and thus had to guess which set of keys and room were mine. I did arrive 30 minute prior to the official check-in, but this was OK'd at the time of booking and reconfirmed on the morning of check-in. In the end, I unknowingly put myself in the wrong room, but this was taken care of by Van and I believe he coordinated with the other visitors to get them into a different room.

  • We loved staying at Mariama's place. It felt like home and Mariama was very welcoming along with the black cat sweet Oreo. It was a great overnight stay while visiting Vassar college. Thank you , Mariama.

    Shawna2017-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Finding the location was really easy. He did call us at 3 to let us know the room wasn’t ready which worked out so it gave us the chance to grab some food on the way. We were a tad bit confused of how to enter the house but he was great and answer my call instantly to let us in. He greeted us and showed us our room and the bathroom. The stairs are a little steeper so that is a must to be careful with. The bathroom had l.e.d. lights so it was a little dim but overall still able to get everything you need done in the bathroom. The bed room was super nice and clean. There was a tower fan for when we get hot which was amazing since my husband and i love having the fan on. We had tons of pillows to choose from which is great. The street parking was great and the neighbor was very close to everything near by. He was very considerate and quiet while we took a late nap before we went out for the night. We saw their cat Oreo only twice. Once when we arrive and the other was when we were leaving. The cat was very considerate also!

  • My second stay at Debbie's, (although technically my third, because I had to split the reservation). Her family is very helpful and friendly. They even went above and beyond by upgrading their Internet to help me with some pretty intense business data transfer requirements. I'll be back for another stay around January. Thanks to Debbie, family, and dogs for a warm, friendly oasis at the end of some very long, physically demanding work days!

Baseboard heat included We can accommodate up to three people- Camping and tented options available (you provide the tent) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: Can I get to the house without a car? A: The house is about 20-minutes driving from the Beacon train station. If you choose not to drive the whole way there are Zipcar pickups at the train station (reserve in advance!) and Uber/LYFT launched in the area ($20-$30 for the ride from the train). A car is highly recommended (especially if you want to explore the area), but this definitely makes things possible for the car-free—just be sure to show up with everything you need for the stay as the farm is in a semi-rural area that is not particularly walkable. Q: Do I need to bring towels or linens? What about a hairdryer? A: Nope! I provide all these things. Including Keihls + Glossier body products Q: How will I receive the key? A: The house features a keyless lockbox that has a one time code Q: Is the place professionally cleaned between guests? A: Yes, and I take pride in providing a clean home for guests. Q: What's up with the cleaning fee? A: I get a lot of questions about this, so I'll just break it down so you understand why it is what it is: All of (except10$) that goes directly to my cleaner. She is a professional who does an exceptional job and who I insist on compensating fairly for her work. A: No. One last thing: I really, really appreciate that you followed directions and read the whole thing. Please put the phrase "I see Moonshadows!" at the top of your message so I know you did so as such bookings tend to go so much smoother! And thanks for hanging in there!
Vineyards, Orchards, and wine trails and nature. The tiny house is situated on a 30-acre farm in the rolling hills of the Hudson Valley. Guests have total privacy but are joined on the farm by the main farm house, a smaller residence with live-in caretakers that can help out in case of an emergency, and one other tiny house. Around the farm are views of rolling vineyards and apple orchards— we are on the Shawangunk wine trail and literally minutes away from Bad Seed orchards and other cider houses. Downtown Main St. is minutes away and has a few lovely nightlife and dining options, and the hopping town of Beacon (home of the Dia; Beacon) is about 20 minutes away. Storm King Art Center (a must) is also about 25 minutes away. Also nearby are Woodstock, Hudson, Kingston, New Paltz, Cold Spring Poughkeepsie, and countless other Hudson Valley destinations.
  • We absolutely loved Raven’s Tiny House. It was the perfect place to relax and sleep in - but still plenty close to several cute towns for lunch and dinner outings and light shopping. The house was very clean and comfortable. Just make sure you go with someone you are very comfortable with because it is close-quarters! Raven did a wonderful job decorating the space and I enjoyed all of the beautiful touches. We will definitely be staying again and even dream of building our own tiny house!

  • Good place.

    Harish2018-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • My only regret is that we could only stay for one night! We loved this tiny house. It was immaculate, everything was clear and labeled. Raven is so hospitable for providing everything you need and high quality products. The toilet was definitely interesting and not difficult to remove the cartridge/liner. Initially, I was nervous because of all the instructions and stressed info about the toilet, but if you watch the video provided in the instructions, it is super simple. Just pay attention and you’ll be fine! I also appreciate that they pay their cleaning person so well. You can tell they do an incredible job and it wouldn’t be easy to clean such a small space. Can’t wait to visit again, I’ve had so many friends ask about it that I may not get the chance to as they are all eager to book after seeing the photos! Thanks again, great stay.

  • This tiny house is ADORABLE. We loved it! The place is really thoughtfully decorated- and all of the amenities were exactly what we needed. Plus, we got to re-think what we really "need" to live in the world. The location is perfect- lots of cideries and orchards nearby, and just a hop skip from NYC. Thank you Raven for a lovely stay. We will definitely be coming back!

    Rachel2018-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • This little getaway house is amazing! Really enjoyed our stay here. It has a beautiful view, enough privacy, cozy living space, and adequate amenities. The toilet is pretty special but manageable as Raven provided comprehensive instructions. Highly recommended!

  • We had a wonderful time staying at #tinyescapeny! It was our first tiny house experience, and I highly recommend it and staying at Raven's. The house was very comfortable, clean, seemed very new and had plenty of space for two. Raven was super responsive throughout the entire experience. She and the neighbor who helps out are down to earth good people and are helpful and hospitable. The house is on a farm in the midst of apple orchards and vineyards, and there are plenty of things to do and places to eat around the area.

    Jennifer2018-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time at Raven's place. We were more comfortable than expected and it felt cozy and like home immediately. The location is very quiet and serene, perfect for a getaway. It is also very easy to access even though we came on a weekend when it rained and snowed. Raven provided everything we needed and more....high end toiletries, comfortable linens, kitchen basics including Trader Joe's coffee! Appliances were more than sufficient and easy to use. Decor was stylish and new. We had great hot showers and slept like babies....our most comfortable glamping experience yet! Raven was very responsive, though we really had no issues during our stay. She was easily reached even after checkout when we forgot something at the house.

    Harsha2018-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Raven's tiny house was a joy to stay in & makes for a perfect hide-away for two! Everything was spotless and fully stocked, and the check-in and -out process was seamless. The location is perfect - secluded but close to the orchards, wineries, & distilleries. An ideal place to get away from it all and commune with nature- while still enjoying some very modern amenities.

  • Everything happens for a reason! Loraine's property made it possible for me to stay within my budget. All of the things that attracted me to her listing (from what the other guests have written) were spot on. I'm grateful to have tried my first AirBNB stay at their home. Very good communicator, conveniently located, & flexible.

    Sunshine2017-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Loraine made me feel very welcomed From the the very first minute. She even offered to pick me up at the train station. And on the way to her house she drove me around the town. Her house is simply charming, decorated with love. You feel like you really came home. My room was very cozy, bed was super comfortable. Cable TV(Fios) -I co watch movies on demand 24 hrs!-:) But who will watch TV if there's pool with crystal blue water sparkling under the sun! Loraine offered me food and drinks - isn't that amazing?!! I spent four wonderful days in Poughkeepsie and I found new good friends there! I will definitely come back and highly recommend this place to anyone!!! Thanks Airbnb - you really connect people .

  • We stayed in the blue room, which was comfortable and cheerful, as described. Loraine and her family were all very friendly, and great hosts who clearly thought through how to address guests' needs and comfort. The entire home was cozy, welcoming, and lively. It felt like we were there to stay with friends we simply had not met before! Would highly recommend it.

Our historically landmarked, Victorian home is located in the South Historic District of Poughkeepsie. She retains much of the Queen Anne detail including fish scale shingles, basket weave trimwork, spindle porch balusters and many colorful stained glass windows. Please be patient with our exterior appearance. She's a work in progress. We are lovingly restoring her back to her original beauty of nearly 130 years ago. The entrance displays a hand carved chestnut archway and beautiful Greek key inlaid floor. The spacious guest room, on the second floor by stairs, includes a queen sized bed, sitting area with a pull out sofa (double), a large closet, dresser and mirror, rocking chair, antique secretary desk, WiFi, TV/cable and air conditioner. The private guest bath is at the end of a short hallway. Our home is convenient to many Hudson Valley sights and attractions. One mile from Metro North & Amtrak train station, 2 miles to Vassar, 3 to Marist and within miles of the Culinary & Omega Institutes, The Roosevelt Estates, Vanderbilt & Mills Mansions, Bard, Innisfree Gardens and many other sites. We are within walking distance of the Soldier's Fountain, the Bardavon, the Adriance Library and the Walkway Over the Hudson. Wonderful restaurants are available, happy to make recommendations. A drugstore and laundromat are around the corner, bus lines are available as well as taxi service. We have 4 cats - Beau, Oreo, Houdini & Miracle. They will not be in your rooms unless you allow them. (Be prepared to give treats!) They do live in the rest of the house and enjoy their outdoor kitty habitat. Please be mindful of their safety; do not let them outside. If you have allergies or concerns about cats, this is not a good fit. If you like cats check out our photos! Our place is perfect for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids, no babies or toddlers please).

  • The place is a fabulous Victorian style house. The cats are all friendly to new people. Kim is very hospitable. We had a wonderful stay.

    Elaine2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Delightful stay at Kim’s home while we were in NY for a family gathering. Spacious room, helpful accommodating host, easy check-in, and good location. Perfect for our overnight in a new city!

    Dorothy2017-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • If you should find yourself in Poughkeepsie, a stay at Kim’s beautiful Victorian home will trump any hotel. She is an incredibly warm and thoughtful hostess, and much of the relaxation I enjoyed on my trip upstate I owe to her. We were actively in touch in the days leading up to my travel, as she wanted to be sure she was on-site when I arrived to help me get settled and show me around. She is very passionate about her home and its careful restoration, and it shows. I wish I had stayed longer to afford myself more time to chat with her about it. She has four beautiful cats, three of whom greeted me with her at the door. I absolutely adore cats, but not to fear for those with mild allergies or less inclined to animals: they are not and will not be near/in your suite. And if you are inclined to cats, Kim’s are very polite and sweet and you can enjoy visits with them in common areas. The suite itself is lovely; very airy and bright, private, and spotlessly clean. In addition, it has its own A/C unit, which I found to be very generous on Kim’s part. A historic home in mid-July in New York, and I arrived to a frosty cool room - major plus !! Other specifics to note: nice, hot shower with great water pressure, and coffee and fresh fruit at your door in the morning. Will definitely be returning !

    Victoria2018-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Kim was very friendly, helpful, and accomodating. The 4 cats were all very sweet. We could pet them anytime we saw them. They didn't seem moody like some cats can be. Easy drive to visit Vassar College, and nice place for a stroll on the historic neighborhood.

    Clark2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I enjoyed our stay with Kim and her sweet kitties. You can simply close the door to your room and they will remain in the main part of the house which is helpful. Kim shared her historic home and gave us a warm welcome and a super yummy breakfast. Great wifi and your own bathroom rounds out a pleasant stay. We opted not to go out in the evening, but enjoyed a relaxing night in. Thanks, Kim!

    Laura2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful old house, comfortable bed, and Kim is lovely and hospitable.

    Sarah2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful historic home centrally located in Poughkeepsie. Owner is on site and a gracious host. I am eager to watch the continuing restoration of this historic listed property, and to return to visit Kim and her lovely cats. The bedroom with a lovely sitting area, and the sparkling clean bathroom provided just the right place to unwind for a couple nights.

    Sara2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoy the beauty and history of the house. (1)The sunlight over the colour glasses when you first woke up. (2) Clean wood floor. Walking with bare foot. Love the touch between the foot and the wood as well. Not too hard nor too soft. Just perfect. (3) Birds and cats friendly home.

Lovely entire 3rd floor in a historic Queen Ann 1894 Victorian home with private entrance and porch. Close to the Walkway Over the Hudson, to the Dutchess/Ulster Bike Rail-Trail system, the FDR home and library, Vanderbilt estate, and many other national historic sites and outdoor adventures. The apartment has just been renovated, is newly furnished, and features tree top views. There is a full kitchen with utensils, cookware and dishes, Keurig with coffee and tea provided. Two bedrooms, one with a new queen bed and the other with two new twin beds, both with ample closets. The bath has a classic Victorian claw foot tub/shower , the half bath is located in the ground floor apartment foyer. There is heat and central A/C.
Academy St Historic District is one of 3 National Historic Districts in the City of Poughkeepsie. Most houses are grand Victorian era homes with large lots on tree lined streets. It is wonderful to stroll the area and view some amazing architectural gems. There is easy access to the Metro North Railroad and Amtrak train station, and NYS Thruway. Poughkeepsie is home to Vassar and Marist Colleges and the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), allowing for some great world class restaurants. We are within walking distance of Rite- Aide and a local deli. We are also in very close proximity to Vassar Brothers Hospital and an Urgent Care facility in the event you should require it. There are two shopping centers within a 5 minute drive of the house and we are located approximately a 1/2mile or a 4 minute drive from downtown Poughkeepsie.
  • Mark's place is beautiful! Only regret is that we couldn't stay longer :)

    Drennen2018-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was absolutely amazing! It truly felt like a home away from home with everything we needed for our weekend away.

    Brittany2018-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Wow this place is gorgeous. Mark and Tim have done a fantastic job with the interior of a beautiful old lady, keeping much of the old charm while adding modern touches. The space is a lot bigger than the photos suggest; the beds are really comfy and we loved the window seat. Mark and Tim were responsive and helpful; we highly recommend staying with them!

    Mark2018-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Mark's place as a surprise for 5 friends staying in town. They could not say enough nice things about the place. It was clean, really spacious and everyone slept great! It's also a close 15-20 minute walk down Hooker Ave where there is a deli, wine store, Rit Aid + more. Great historic neighborhood. Thank you, Mark.

    Tanya2018-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • the place was really sweet with very stylish appointments. unfortunately, we got there late in the evening and left early in the morning. we'd love to come and stay there again for a longer time.

    Mark2018-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely charming apartment in this amazing Victorian home. We were able to park both of our cars off street in a very safe backyard. The apartment was sparking clean, charming and perfect for the 5 ladies staying. One and a half baths were perfect, kitchen with a Kerig (and a wonderful selection of coffes and tea), and spa quality towels. We were invited to use the backyard table and firepit to end our evening. Great location, great hosts (that provided immediate responses even when I went to the wrong house first!) We look forward to returning to Mark & Tim's place again and again.

    Joan2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Mark was lovely, as was the space! I highly recommend staying here. The kitchen is big, I wish we had more time to take advantage of it. The rooms are very well appointed, with fun art and quality furniture, etc. Mark was easy to communicate with, and helpful. It was easy to come and go, park, etc. The neighborhood is gorgeous! I would certainly come again.

    Emily2018-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • Mark was fantastic. Great communicator who had great insight into the local area and had great suggestions for us. At the end of the day you don't get a better operator than Mark! They went way above and beyond for our comfort and were really concerned that we had a great time.

Quiet neighborhood centrally located 5 minutes from Marist, CIA, Vassar, and route 9. Top selections of restaurants in the area to choose. Newly renovated 3br home. Cozy w lots of character. Private parking for guests. Enjoy the very best of the Hudson Valley, and feel at home doing so.
It is quiet and clean. There is also a ceiling fan in each room with original hard wood flooring. Lots of character throughout. Modern appliances, toiletries, and basic everyday living essentials provided. To express our appreciation for choosing our home, a bottle of wine is provided for our guests. The kitchen, bathroom, and living area are all shared spaces. Enjoy!
Our home is quiet and yet close to everything, i.e...restaurants, theater, colleges, hospital, and shopping mall. Ideal location for great dining, family entertainment as well as local pubs. The home is on a quiet street near Vassar Hospital in the historic district of Poughkeepsie. It is also within 10 minutes driving distance to FDR and the Vanderbilt Estate, which are both excellent for picnics and walks/tours of the property. The home is with a 5 minute WALK to the Metro North train station, Mid Hudson Civic Center, and Walkway over the Hudson.
  • Another good visit. I enjoy staying at Van's because of its location and the apartment itself. Van is a great host.

  • My husband and I were in town for the marathon and Van's place was perfect -- a great place to relax and very close to the race. He even stopped by and dropped off a bottle of wine. Definitely recommend. Thanks Van!

    Laura2016-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a nice stay at Van's place. It was incredibly warm out so the in-window AC unit was much appreciated. Super close to downtown and the river, simple but nice spot.

    Daniel2016-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Van's house was clean and cozy with a friendly atmosphere. It was also 3mins away from Vassar Brothers Medical Center, which is where I needed to be for work. Great location!!

  • The stay at Van's was very comfortable and clean. The location was right in the city which was great for my visit. I would stay again

  • Van operates a cute little house about 15 minute walk from downtown Poughkeepsie. There are four AirBnb rooms in the house and we had some confusion checking in--another visitor accidently took our room. But we got it sorted out and Van was available on chat relatively late at night during our checkin time.

    Jeremy2017-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with Van was great. We visited this area to come back to The Culinary Institute of America, our alma mater. Our stay couldn't have been better. Our private room actually had its own entrance, which was SO convenient! Van welcomed us with a bottle of wine which was great way to start off our mini vacation. He was available for all questions and responded quickly and warmly. He made sure to let us know when he was coming or going and also when another guest checked into his other private room. We will absolutely m be choosing to stay with Van the next time we visit the Hudson Valley.

Located in the historic part of Poughkeepsie. This multifamily home is in a beautiful residential area close to all major attractions in the Hudson valley. Walking distance to metro north train, Vassar hospital, and the beautiful walkway over the Hudson. Within 15 minutes walk/5 minute drive to Marist College, Vassar college , and the culinary institute of America. Huge variety of restaurants and pubs in the area
Clean, quiet, and private, with private parking
    It is quiet and private
  • The pictures make the place look more inviting than we found. Our room was extremely small and had only one hard back chair for sitting. My husband likes to read and found it difficult to find a comfortable spot. Also note this room is on the second floor up a narrow staircase with a twist at the top. We needed three keys to three doors before we actually made it to our room. Leaving us to wonder if there was a safety issue we should be aware of at this house. We did not meet Van but spoke with him on the phone where he gave us step by step instructions on finding our room. The building is more like an older two story apartment house with Van sharing the rooms out to Airbnb guests. The value was fair and we only stayed one night for a place to sleep before continuing our journey. As a women I would not have wanted to stay here alone. Just a feeling perhaps. We did find the place clean and quiet.

    Diane2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Van's place is very conveniently located. He is a great communicator and always wanted to be sure everything was OK. Very clean place with a couple of other guest rooms. We shared the space with another couple which worked out very well. Also we had off street parking which is always a plus especially in the historic district where streets tend to be narrow. I would recommend this place for anyone visiting the area.

    Robert2018-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Van's place was ideal. It is close to downtown Poughkeepsie, and is very spacious. We had the whole place to ourselves.

    Todd2018-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was tip top, Vans knows about the hospitality and that is revealed completely. I highly recommend.

    Diego2017-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • I had to check in late and Van left me a bottle of wine and clean towels in a super clean room. His directions for me were impeccable. I will stay there again for sure!

  • Very comfy and clean place. You have a whole floor to yourself which is nice. Van was very responsive and accommodating which was great. Would definitely recommend!

    Shamayl2018-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Consistency is very important. If I need any assistance Van is always responsive. And Van's location is always clean and quiet. And the off street parking is a plus!

  • Great place! Van was very accommodating and helpful. He made sure to help me check in even when my plans changed. The bottle of wine was a very nice touch! He did come into the apartment unannounced, which I found a bit surprising. But, overall I’d recommend it

  • Doris is super nice, and provides lots of snacks!

  • Imagine turning into your grandmother’s drive at the end of a long journey. You know you are going to be warmly treated and Gran is going to go the extra mile to make sure you are well taken care of. That’s what it is like to stay at the House by the Pond. Doris is a most gracious host and goes the extra mile to make sure you have plenty of snacks, beverages and toiletries to make your stay as comfy and homey as possible. She has a sparkle in her eye and such conviviality as she greets you. The little apartment is perfect for two and the surroundings are sublime. Can’t recommend highly enough.

  • The place was beautiful. Doris made our stay especially enjoyable. She is kind and very accommodating. The property is beautiful and is a wonderful place if you're looking for a nature walk and scenic roads. The pond is a great addition. It would have been nice to have a stove to cook food, but there was a microwave and Doris provided us with many lovely snacks including home-made muffins. It is a quiet, peaceful area with stores and diners that are around 7 minute drive away. Definitely would recommend. Did I mention how lovely our host Doris was?(:

  • Doris is a delightful, well-prepared host. The location is beautiful and restful. The drive to the Roosevelt’s Hyde Park site is easy. Good value for money.

  • This was our first Airbnb experience and it was incredible. Doris is a wonderful host, and we will be back.

    John2017-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Pros. 1. Doris is adorable, warm and very helpful. 2. Snacks are plentiful and well organized. 3. The apartment, which is in the basement, is very clean and spacious. 4. The outdoor seating ie the porch etc seemed well kept but since it was chilly we couldn't use it Cons. 1. Almost zero water pressure in the shower. Close to a trickle. Combine that with the hardness of well water and showering took ages! 2. The bed is a double at best. Definitely not a queen. My wife and I took turns to sleep on the couch. 3. The heat comes on accompanied by a thousand groans of pipings. Very very noisy!

Weekly discount of 20% for week-long stays in December/January The location of the flat is the South Side. As a rule of thumbs, hosts can not change the location of their listings, with that in mind I assure you that my flat and the surrounding areas are safe and quiet. Alternate st. parking The Hudson Valley is a picturesque area and there are innumerable amounts of attractions and points of interest, from nature walks/hikes, restaurants, historic sites, etc. Enjoy your stay
Lofty, high ceiling-ed one bedroom apartment in a historic landmark building in the Academy St District on the Southside of Poughkeepsie. The apartment features large windows, tons of natural sunlight, and easy access to shopping, riverfront, and Vassar/Marist. Bright, one bedroom apartment with original Victorian architecture and including beautiful hardwood floors paired with large, over-sized windows and sunroom which flood the space with natural light! My flat is close to the Poughkeepsie Train Station, restaurants, shops, bars, cafe's, Walkway over the Hudson, Marist College, The Culinary Institute, Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Mid-Hudson Regional, Bardavon Opera House and the Poughkeepsie Waterfront Guests will have access to the entire apartment! Wireless internet 46" LED SmartTV Verizon Fios cable + TiVo Full Kitchen Coffee maker Microwave Fan Air conditioning Spacious Bathroom Claw foot tub Original cast iron corner sink. I like to provide you with general information and make sure you have everything you need when you settle in. After that its up to you to come and enjoy all the amazing Hudson River valley Poughkeepsie, and the greater Hudson Valley area is a perfect place to getaway for a long weekend. 'The Valley' is known for spectacular views, beautiful apple orchards, and the Shawangunk mountain range. Our studio is centrally located between Marist and Vassar Colleges, walking distance to Vassar Hospital, and a few minute drive to The Walkway Over the Hudson. The Walkway which is the tallest, and longest pedestrian bridge in the country, towers over the scenic Hudson River and Mid-Hudson Bridge. This combination creates a breathtaking backdrop that changes with every season. We have also been hard at work finishing the Hudson Valley Rail Trail, a 26 mile paved path that connects to the Walkway on both sides. The Rail Trail winds through the wooded Hudson Valley and can take you from Hopewell to New Paltz. Of great importance...food! The Culinary Institute of America, nestled on a beautiful campus just 10 minutes from the apartment, ensures good eats every night of the week! Due to the location many of the restaurants in Poughkeepsie feature a kitchen full of culinary grads. (We have a couple recommendations to point you in the right direction). Other historic attractions in the area include Locust Groove (Samuel B. Morris's Home), The Children's Museum, and (within 15 min car ride) the Franklin D. Roosevelt Estate, Vanderbilt Mansion, Mills Mansion, and Eleanor Roosevelt's hide away, Val-kill. Not into history? Check out The Millhouse or Blue Collar Breweries for a localy brewed cold one, Tuttletown Distillery, Dutchess County Fairgrounds, and MANY vineyards that are home to some of New York's best wines! Come check it out, its truly a great place to stay! Parking is on street and government regulations apply. (Look at street signs) I recommend parking on Franklin st. It is easiest to get around town by car. Uber/Cabs are only a phone call away, and if your out late call safe ride. (a free cab ride home from the bars). Lolita's Pizza on Washington Ave. Artist Palate on Main Street. Mill House Brewery on Mill Street/Rt 44-55 and many more...

  • Really enjoyed Luis' place, 15 minute walk or 5 minute uber in to the historic part of town and its bars and restaurants.

    Lee2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • The stay was great! Luis was kind enough to mail the keys ahead of time since we would be getting in late. The apartment itself is gorgeous and it was centrally located to the various activities we wanted to do (went to Lake Minniwaska State Park, Orvis Sandonna, drinks in downtown Poughkeepsie). If you're coming up from NYC, just remember this is a smaller town so there's less to do but still a great way to get out of the city and enjoy the outdoors. Everyone in the town was so friendly, also!

  • The photos of this apartment truly depict this stylish sun & art filled apartment. Everything you need is there, and it's comfortable and clean. However, we did get a last minute message from Luis about picking up key at a remote location. This was a hassle for us as we had been traveling all day by plane, train, & taxi! He offered to pay our Uber charge for the inconvenience, but sometimes TIME is the greatest commodity. (He has since responded to us that he is putting in a KEY box - which should take care of this problem). Note that the apartment is in an OLD, old, building ...the entrance is rather dark, smelly & dirty, but the apartment itself is fine. It was quiet and not on a busy street. Parking was a bit tricky because you had to move your car before 9 a.m. to avoid ticketing. Fortunately, we were only there for a few days and were typically up and ready to roll by 9 a.m. Highly recommend the "Walkway over the Hudson" and also a visit to the park down by the river almost under the bridge. We enjoyed a meal and drinks at the Mill House Brewery (parking tricky there too!). Recommend a side trip to Roosevelt's home and museum and also to Rhinebeck (good shopping and eats!) is worth your time if you're in the area.

  • Wonderful stay as always. Luis was there to greet me, and everything was perfect. I love the area because it is close to everything and quiet. The studio is a home from home, cosy and everything you need.

  • Luis & Craig's charming studio provided a great, easy escape from NYC. The studio was exactly as it was described. Luis and Craig are wonderful hosts - accommodating and attentive. I came to Poughkeepsie in part to do some non-city running, and it was fantastic. For any runners or bikers, I highly recommend heading over the Walkway Over the Hudson and then continuing on the Hudson Valley Rail Trail.

  • The apartment looks just as shown in the pictures, if not better. There are high ceilings with lots of large windows. We had a fabulous time exploring the area, went kayaking, wine tasting, and ate at a few fun restaurants. I highly recommend staying here if your destination is Poughkeepsie : ) Luis is very responsive and a great host, very easy to communicate with!

  • Super cute and comfortable. Felt like home.

    Brian2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and cozy apartment. Only about a 5 minute drive or 15 minute walk to basically all the restaurants. Highly recommend it!

A truly special place! We greatly enjoyed our first trip to upstate New York. The property is a quick drive from charming New Paltz and afterward we were treated to fireflies and a clear night full of stars. We couldn't believe this idyllic spot was only a short drive from Manhattan!

Bob was a great host! He was very helpful and gave us great restaurant suggestions for dinner. In the morning, he made us a delicious vegetarian breakfast. It was really interesting seeing his place and learning about his solar panels and the composting toilet. (Which, if you have never used one before, is pretty neat and not at all gross!) The cabin itself is really cute and cozy. It was the perfect little getaway spot!

Paula was a fantastic host and her home is one very special place. The town also couldn't be any cuter if it tried! Plus it's so easy to get to by Metro North (if you have someone to pick you up - you'll want a car up there). It is a lovely and relaxing sanctuary that was perfect for my friends reunion. Thanks again Paula!
