If none of those interest you, you could climb Criffel hill, visit Mabie forest to enjoy its vast choice of walks and 7 stanes mountain biking trails, or just enjoy a peaceful walk by the river in Dock park. Holmlea was built as a weaver’s cottage in the 1840s and was entirely renovated in 2023. We’re proud of how warm and calming the space now is. Our aim has been to provide a stylish, timeless 5* hotel environment in a small, self-contained cottage. One UK king bedroom plus a proper double sofabed downstairs. Just a minute’s walk from our bustling town centre, Holmlea offers a peaceful, cozy welcome to the magnificent southern uplands. Perfect for a romantic getaway, or just a restful stopover.

Dumfries' museums are also treasure troves for uncovering the local history including Robert Burns.

Welcome to our idyllic riverside cottage. Nestled in the picturesque Dumfries & Galloway countryside and set on the banks of Cairn Water. The area is rich with wildlife. Red squirrel, deer, kingfisher, woodpecker, red kite, buzzard and otter are just a few of the local visitors spotted from our garden. Stepford Station Cottage is the perfect cosy retreat for nature lovers. We welcome up to 2 well behaved dogs at no extra fee.
