This is a walking and history tour that walks the complete outside circumference of the gated portion of the White House. Prior to 09/11, as a former White House staffer, I could simply show my ID and take visitors in for a tour. That perk evaporated on 09/12/2001, and inside tours must be requested through a member of Congress. An external, walking tour is the next best thing to a tour inside, with my sharing features of major rooms in the White House, the West Wing, and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, where my office was when I worked at the White House.
In addition to the history of the building and stories about some of its occupants, you get the perspective of a former White House staffer who worked for two US presidents and on the campaigns of two candidates who did not win the presidency. I have met every president who has served during my lifetime, from FDR through the current president.
The meet place is outside the White House Visitor Center, on Pennsylvania Avenue, between 14th and 15th Streets, NW.
The walk begins by passing through the recently dedicated National World War I Memorial, and proceeds past the Sherman Monument to the Ellipse on the side of the White House, with stories, photographs, and opportunities for questions.
Continuing toward the official front of the White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, we pass the first headquarters of the America

Кольцо на память своими руками
We will begin with a peek in the Gallery, featuring jewelry handcrafted by US artisans, and a tour of our Studio School. I will also share some history of our 1890 Victorian-era building. In the workshop, you will use steel letter stamps and a hammer to impress words of your choice onto sterling silver strips. Then, you will form the strip into a circle and solder it together (with help). Finally, oxidize (blacken) the ring, and polish to your desired finish. We limit the workshop to four students to guarantee lots of personal instruction, as well as the opportunity to get to know your classmates.
Other things to note
Unfortunately, our Victorian-era building is not fully accessible to the handicapped.
Black History on Pennsylvania Ave
Walk the Avenue and learn about the emancipation of enslaved DC residents, a grand march for the women's vote, the infamous Snow Riot, the evolution of Home Rule, DC local history, and much more.
Stops include Old City Hall, the National Council of Negro Women, National Archives (outside), FDR's original memorial, Newspaper Row, Freedom Plaza, and the new World War I Memorial.
Pennsylvania Avenue is one of DC’s most recognizable thoroughfares. It has been home to inaugural parades, mass protests, street festivals, and storied institutional buildings past & present. This tour focuses on the Black history of DC and the country as a whole!
Other things to note:
This tour ends at the intersection of 14th & Penn Ave NW, 11 blocks from the starting point.
Typically I hold tours rain or shine, unless the weather posses a safety hazard (lightning, ice, tornado, etc). If a weather-related emergency arises, I will be in contact with the group to cancel, delay, or reschedule.

Taking Baseball 'National' Historic Walking Experience
A dramatic storytelling walk through the White House neighborhood about a pivotal moment in baseball history?!
That is correct!
In the summer of 1865, Henry Chadwick, the father of baseball, decided that our hard won, post-Civil War peace was the best time to transform baseball into America’s Pastime.
…so he chose a group of government employees playing baseball after work on the White House Ellipse - The Washington Nationals - to help him make America fall in love with baseball and transform it into America’s Pastime.
And it worked.
Find out how they did it on the “Taking Baseball ‘National’” Historic Story Walking Experience.
Follow Chadwick and the Nationals as they enlist the help of the President, host national tournaments against the best teams in the country, recruit the best players from New York City and, eventually make America fall in love with the game we now all know and love!
We also learn about the first official segregation of the game, the founding of the first professional baseball league and how the toxic relationship between owners and players got started.
How on earth are all of those things related to the White House neighborhood?! Starting at the Andrew Jackson statue in Lafayette Park and finishing on the Ellipse, you will be amazed by how the Washington Nationals of the 1860s and the White House neighborhood changed the history of baseball.

Explore the History of Black Georgetown
This walking tour starts at 3206 O Street NW DC and ends at the Mt. Zion/Female Union Band Cemetery at 2501 Mill Rd. NW. There is a half-way stop at Thomas Sweet Shop for a bathroom break and refreshment.
Description: This indepth tour takes guests on a journey through the African American history of Georgetown, a now-exclusive neighborhood in Washington, DC.
Someone visiting Georgetown today may see it as another wealthy enclave in a continuously gentrifying Washington, DC. However, this charming area that boasts high-end shopping and gourmet restaurants has a diverse past. At one point African Americans counted for as much as 30% of the Georgetown population. Descendants of enslaved peoples and free black folk have lived in Georgetown for generations, but their contributions to its history do not often receive recognition. This tour will reveal the stories of the black citizens who made their mark on one of DC’s oldest neighborhoods.
